It has amazing health benefits, helps in expelling phlegm and mucus, strengthens nervous system, is a very good digestive agent, tones up the urinary tract, and is also a very very good cure for people suffering from insomnia. It is very commonly used in Ayurvedic medicines, and it treats liver ailments, diabetes and bacterial infections. It is normally available in stores selling herbs and ayurvedic medicines. Recipe Cuisine: South Indian; Category: Rasams/Lunch
Prep time: 10mts; Cooking time: 20mts
Serves 6
Roast in ghee, the ingredients mentioned above
To the tomato puree, add the tamarind paste, and solid hing, along with salt, sambar powder and curry leaves .....
and allow to boil and reduce in quantity.
Add water to the powdered spices and keep ready.
To the reduced tomato-sambar powder-tamarind liquid, add the spice powder water and bring it to a boil. Do not allow it to boil it will lose its flavour.
In ghee, season mustard seeds.
Add it to the rasam, and serve hot with rice/curry/papad of your choice.
The rasam, containing all the medicinal wonders and health benefits is here for you!
Variations
* Some prefer to roast and powder few red chillies, and not add sambar powder. I prefer to do this, since it gives a body to the rasam.
